This fall is as optimistic as any fall in the recent history of Saint Michael's College Baseball. The team is re-entering the NE-10 conference for the first time in over a decade. It is apparent to all involved that last year's record is unacceptable and the work ethic and the freshman additions have already evoked optimism among the team and those that follow it.
The team has scrimmaged twice against UVM and although last weeks scrimmage against Castleton was canceled, the team has not missed a beat. This Saturday they will scrimmage against a Canadian travel team; yet another opportunity to see how they stack up and perform in competitive situations.
In addition, they have had many highly productive inter-squad scrimmages during various practices. The goal for the year is simple. Not only compete at a high level in the NE-10, but win the conference. With Le Moyne moving down from division-1 and the powerhouses of the conference such as Franklin Pierce, U-Mass Lowell, and Southern Connecticut this may seem like a lofty goal, but that is why they are trying to pursue it. Lots of returners on this team and good new additions, as well as a better attitude and a better will to win and a better reason to work hard, this goal is not yet out of reach.
